디자이너로서의 경력은 캐나다로 오기 전부터 있었지만 이곳에 정착하고 난 뒤 작은 시골 마을에서 살아가면서 그 커리어를 계속 지켜 간다는 것은 쉽지 않다. 무려 핸드폰이 없는 생활을 4년간 했고 간혹 인터넷이 되지 않는 곳에서 머물어 문명(?)을 등지기도 했으니. 핸드 니팅의 패턴을 만드는 니트웨어 디자이너라는 타이틀을 새로 만들어 달고 멀리 한국에 미국에 있는 친구와 가족들이 우쭈쭈 해주면 내심 흐믓해하고 기뻐 했다. 하지만 마음 한구석에는 언제나 두려움이 겁이 도사리고 있었다. 나는 트위드 쟈켓도 만들어 보고 판탈롱도 드레스도 만들어 봤지만 뜨개질을 해서 옷을 만든 경험은 별로 없었다. 프로그램을 돌려 스크린에 주어지는 무늬를 기계로 찍어내는 니팅과 손으로 잡고 실이 아닌 시간을 짜는 핸드 니팅은 비슷한듯 하지만 더 많은 시행착오를 요구 하기 때문이다.
2014년과 2015년은 내게 혼란기 인것 같다. 알듯 말듯 잡히지 않는 무언가를 잡고 싶은 그런 시기. 그래도 꽤 꾸준히 열심히 했구나...
Description
Closely set cables curve along the fronts of the cropped NoBo Jacket. The back is worked first; fronts are picked up from the side seams and worked perpendicularly, turning upward with the aid of short-rows.
Finished Size: 16 ½ (18 ¼, 20, 22, 23 ½)” back width at bust. Jacket shown measures 16 ½”.
Yarn: Berroco Vintage Chunky (50% acrylic, 40% wool, 10% nylon; 130 yd 119 m/3 ½ oz 100 g): #6121 sunny, 7 (8, 9, 9, 10) skeins.
Needles: Body and sleeves-size 9 (5.5 mm). I-cord edgings-size 9 (5.5 mm): 2 doublepointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Removable markers (m); stitch holder; cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.
Gauge: 19 sts and 22 rows = 4″ in charted back patt.
